Many people seek peace of mind through Zen meditation. For others, Zen represents an authentic and ancient spiritual teaching whose unbroken line is traced to the very enlightenment of the Buddha.
The Hazy Moon Zen Center brings people together to learn classical Zen Buddhism, and thereby enrich and invigorate their everyday lives.
We do so by practicing
zazen, or Zen meditation, by working with a teacher, and by helping one another as a
sangha, or community. Beginners find a friendly and unpretentious place to learn firsthand about Zen. More experienced practitioners find the familiar grace of the Japanese Zen tradition, whose elegant form we follow. Zen Buddhism is a 2,500-year-old oral teaching carried forward one-to-one from teacher to student. It is rare to encounter a real Zen teacher.
Our teacher, or
Roshi, William Nyogen Yeo
, was the student of Maezumi Roshi, who brought Japanese Zen to the United States in 1956. Nyogen Roshi was the last of only a dozen students authorized by Maezumi Roshi to succeed him as a teacher. Nyogen Roshi studied with Maezumi Roshi for 27 years.
The Hazy Moon offers daily zazen, weekly Dharma talks by Nyogen Roshi, intensive retreats, and regular classes to begin or refine your Zen practice. See more by visiting our
Schedule section.
No matter how you choose to start, you are welcome to join us as a guest, class participant or member.
