Summer's Fruitful Shelter
Ango Training Period
5.03.08 - 8.02.08

Seasons change and life does too. The approach of summer brings the start of our Summer Ango training period, three full months of retreat practice in keeping with the origins of Buddhism, when the disciples of Shakyamuni Buddha would find shelter out of the seasonal rains for peaceful, communal practice. Our Ango extends from May 3 to August 2 and follows the sesshin sitting schedule Mondays-Fridays with special weekend and weeklong sesshins also designated. This year's Ango will carry the commitment and compassion of Shuso Jacklyn Gyonin Hirshfeld, who will serve us as head priest. While summer's rhythm may alter daily life, there is no escaping the ample opportunity to deepen your practice with us. For details, see our Retreats page, then contact us to register for partial or extended practice residency.

Dharma Talks

Within Your Grasp

The great Mumon, compiler of "The Gateless Gate" koan collection said, "If you can grasp it directly, you wear the Buddha's clothes, eat the Buddha's food, speak the Buddha's words and do the Buddha's deeds." Nyogen Roshi pinpoints the direct route to Buddha land in our newest audio talk, "Grasp it Directly!" Grasp it and our entire catalog of talks here.
