Keeping the Dharma Alive

by Michael Isshin Spiller

In the world of pain and suffering, ignorance and greed, it is rare to encounter the living Dharma. Please consider making a gift to the Hazy Moon to sustain our center and keep the Dharma alive. But before you give, find out what your gift will do.

Q:  Am I being asked to give money to a religion?

A:  Zen Buddhism is a practice, not a religion.

Q:  Why does it look like a religion, with robes, altar, chanting and bowing?

A:  Ours is an ancient teaching handed down from India, to China, to Japan and finally to the West. As a lineage practice, we do not dispose of any part that is still useful.

Q: What exactly is this practice?

A:  Our practice is to take the backward step, turn the light inward, and think non-thinking.

Q:  Why do you do it?

A:  To give our minds a rest from nonstop churning and make our presence in the world kinder and more harmonious. A half-century of research into the effects of meditation confirms this.

Q:  What will my gift do?

A:  Making a donation, either online or by mail, will sustain our center and keep the Dharma alive, a profoundly urgent necessity.

Thank you for considering a donation to the Hazy Moon at this time.
